Sandra Ruuda is leaving her position as chairwoman of the Swedish Equestrian Federation. "I feel that there has been too much focus on me personally, so much so that there is no room for other issues and other activities are being put aside," she says in a press release.

The Swedish Equestrian Federation pushed through an age limit of 13 for participation in national and international competitions, and received criticism.

The proposal was later withdrawn, but the criticism of Sandra Ruuda has not diminished. As recently as last week, more than 160 people, including equestrian star Rolf-Göran Bengtsson, wrote an open letter demanding Ruuda's resignation.

“I would have liked to stay in the position until the next federal general meeting, but for the sake of Swedish equestrian sport this is the right decision,” says Ruuda, who was elected chairman in 2023 and became the first woman to hold the position. Gabriella Bragée, chairman of the competition section, is also leaving her position.

Ruuda and Bragée are not the first to leave the federation after the criticized proposal. In January, the entire jumping committee was fired and two days later, general secretary Johan Fyrberg left his position early.

Camilla Sjölund Lundevall, former vice chair, will take over as acting chair.

TT has contacted Sandra Ruuda.
