Samuelsson started the race as third after Friday's sprint, but failed to defend his podium position.
Halfway through, it looked quite promising, but in the standing shooting, Samuelsson missed the target with four out of ten shots.
The performance could have been better, especially in the standing shooting, says Samuelsson to SVT.
"Could have been better"
In the end, he sprinted to the finish as fifth, just ahead of Sturla Holm Lægreid but more than a minute behind the superior Johannes Thingnes Bø.
Fifth is a good result, now I've been on the flower ceremony in almost all the races I've competed in. So it's great, but it's clear that it could have been better today again.
Bø could afford to miss a shot in the final shooting. The Norwegian World Cup leader was still outstanding and finished 27 seconds ahead of second-placed Eric Perrot and 47 seconds ahead of third-placed Emilien Jacquelin, both from France.
Lift for Ponsiluoma
Friday's success man, Martin Uldal, came back down to earth quickly after the sprint victory. The Norwegian went out as first, but finished 21st after six misses in total.
Uldal was the day's flop, while Martin Ponsiluoma delivered the day's climb.
The Swede's catastrophic sprint ended in 58th place – after missing the first four shots. It went better now when there was nothing to lose. Ponsiluoma climbed to 19th place, after managing to shoot full house in a prone series for the first time this season.
It was a damn good competition, I was third best of all today. It means a lot to get this race with me, says he to SVT.
