On Thursday, the women had success in the distance race when Elvira Öberg won ahead of older sister Hanna Öberg.

When it was time for the men, it was about people other than the Swedish competitors.

It was a French victory thanks to World Cup leader Eric Perrot, who shot clean and finished 29.9 seconds ahead of second place Sturla Holm Lægreid, the controversial Norwegian who made headlines during the Olympics with an infidelity scandal.

Tough on the trail

Samuelsson missed two shots and had a tough time on the track. In the end, he was almost three and a half minutes behind Perrot.

That surprised Samuelsson.

I'm a little surprised by the skiing. It felt pretty good, but I'm a bit behind, he tells SVT.

He didn't want to blame the skis.

We have to do an analysis and talk to the team, but it felt good, says Samuelsson, who lost to Perrot in the overall World Cup and is now having difficulty catching up.

Relay on Saturday

Perrot leads with 924 points and Samuelsson is in third place, now 227 points behind. In between is Tommaso Giacomel of Italy, in second place, 100 points ahead of the Swede.

The men will run a relay on Saturday and a mass start on Sunday (the women have the opposite program) and then there are two more World Cup weekends left.

I need a podium finish this weekend to be satisfied, Samuelsson tells SVT.

Jesper Nelin was the second-best Swede in 17th place and Viktor Brandt finished 21st.

Olympic gold medalist in the pursuit Martin Ponsiluoma was on his way to a top-10 finish, but missed three shots in the final standing shoot. In total, he missed five shots and finished in 42nd place.
