The union said in a statement, according to Bloomberg, that it will begin voting this week on whether to go on strike.
Negotiations between the electronics giant and the union have been under way for over three months. The union is seeking, among other things, a seven percent pay increase and the removal of the bonus cap.
The union represents about 89,000 of Samsung's approximately 130,000 employees in South Korea, according to the Yonhap news agency.
If the strike goes ahead, it will take place between May 21 and June 7. It would be the second time in the company's history that employees have gone on strike. The last time was in 2024.
