It is the second time in five months that the 9,755 eligible Sami voters get to go to the polling stations. The Sami Parliament election in May was declared invalid by the Election Review Board after it was revealed that 93 outer envelopes in the polling station in Arjeplog had not been re-glued by the polling officer.
In the election in May, the Hunting and Fishing Sami became the largest party with twelve seats, followed by the Sameland Party with seven seats. A lower turnout is expected as re-elections usually have that effect, but it is unclear how it affects the distribution of seats.
In total, there are 21 polling stations from Karesuando in the north to Stockholm in the south that are open for voting between 08 and 20 on Saturday. The vote count begins on October 13, with a final result ready two days later.
