Salvatore Mancuso, a former paramilitary leader, was sentenced by a Colombian court to 40 years in prison for 117 crimes committed against the indigenous Wayuu people.
He was convicted of murder, among other crimes. The crimes allegedly occurred between 2002 and 2006.
Mancuso was appointed by President Gustavo Petro in 2024 to mediate peace talks with a drug cartel, after returning from the United States where he served a 16-year prison sentence for drug trafficking.
