The temporarily reduced food VAT is in effect until January 2028, but the S leader is open to maintaining it if the economically tough situation persists.
If it's a really tough situation in the world and we have very high food prices, then it's clear that we have to be prepared to look at VAT, the S leader told a radio station.
To deal with the current energy crisis, she also thinks that the government should implement a proposal for short-time work - similar to what was introduced during the pandemic, where companies received government support to be able to retain their staff when the economy slowed down.
Something the government can do quickly is implement an updated short-time work system to protect Swedish jobs in the event of a more serious crisis.
