The Social Democrats are demanding answers from Minister of the Elderly and Social Insurance Anna Tenje (M) after SVT's investigation into shortcomings in elderly care, SVT reports.

On Thursday, the Social Democrats will send a formal request for Anna Tenje to come to the Riksdag's Social Insurance Committee.

The requirement comes after SVT's review showed that 12 people died due to deficiencies in home care among the 190 Lex Sarah cases that the Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate, IVO, concluded in 2024.

SVT's investigation has shown the immense vulnerability that the elderly and their relatives can find themselves in, as well as the staff. Home care and elderly care are things that must work and the government is doing far too little, says Fredrik Lundh Sammeli, social policy spokesperson for the Social Democrats.

The Left Party has previously called for a crisis commission following the alarms about shortcomings in home care.
