Ryan Murphy is behind series such as "American horror story", "Nip/tuck" and "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer story". Now Murphy's "The Shards" has officially got the green light as a series by the American channel FX.

The actors Igby Rigney ("The fall of the house of Usher), Homer Gere (The Agency) and Graham Campbell join Kaia Gerber who plays the lead role.

The project is based on "American psycho" author Bret Easton Ellis' semi-biographical thriller with the same name. The story takes place in Los Angeles 1981 and follows a 17-year-old version of Ellis during his last year at school Buckley. The mysterious new classmate Robert Mallory appears – at the same time as a serial killer called "The Trawler" is ravaging the city.

Ellis has since 2023 developed "The Shards" for HBO where he would be screenwriter and executive producer. Then Luca Guadagnino ("Challengers") and Kristoffer Borgli ("Dream scenario") were both attached to direct the project, but it never happened. Instead, "American horror story" director Max Winkler will take on the new "Shards" project, but who will be the screenwriter is still unknown.

CORRECTED: In an earlier version, an inaccuracy occurred. Correct is that the school in the book is not a boarding school
