According to intelligence officials interviewed by the news agency, Russian agents are setting up fake companies, recruiting middlemen and using hackers to gather information.
Säpo's deputy chief of operations, Christoffer Wedelin, says Russian agents are targeting Sweden's most advanced defense research, such as the Gripen fighter jet. They are also trying to obtain camera and laser technology that can be integrated with Russian weapons systems.
Moscow is also trying to steal space technology for satellite reconnaissance and navigation, according to Juha Martelius, head of the Finnish Security Intelligence Service. Martelius said the Russians also need new computer technology and updated software.
