The incident occurred in international waters southeast of the Danish town of Gedser.
The helicopter was about 150 metres above sea level at the time. It was on a routine mission to photograph the Russian warship. Suddenly, the helicopter crew saw a flare being fired from the ship at the helicopter and passing very close.
Similar missions have been carried out several times against the same frigate since 2022.
"We carried out the task in exactly the same way we usually do. Our helicopter did not show any threatening or provocative behaviour," the Danish pilot said in a comment.
