The Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked North Korea for the country's "positive support to the Russian Federation" when he met a high-ranking North Korean official in Moscow earlier in the week, according to North Korea's state media on Saturday.
Thursday's meeting with Ri Hi Yong, secretary of the ruling Communist Party's central committee, has also been confirmed by the Kremlin.
The meeting took place on the same day as the South Korean intelligence service reported that North Korea has sent more soldiers to Russia's war with Ukraine. According to the intelligence service, North Korean soldiers have also been redeployed to the front line in the Russian Kursk.
None of the countries have officially confirmed that North Koreans have been sent to fight against Ukraine.
