"What we've tried to do, and what I think we've made some progress on, is figure out what the Ukrainians can live with that gives them security guarantees for the future," he said in an interview with Fox News.
He adds that the US hopes the compromise “allows them not only to rebuild their economy, but to prosper as a country.”
On Tuesday, US envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin met in the Kremlin. The meeting lasted nearly five hours.
The Russian side described the meeting as productive, but said that no compromise had been reached. Yuri Ushakov, a close advisor to Putin, stated, among other things, that territorial issues were discussed, and that there is no meeting planned between Putin and US President Donald Trump.
