The statement is made ahead of Rubio's upcoming visit to Israel.
He notes, however, that President Donald Trump "was not happy" about the attack.
It will not change the foundation of our relationship with the Israelis, but we will have a conversation about it, mainly about what effect it has (on the efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza), says Rubio.
It was on Tuesday that Israel launched an attack on high-ranking Hamas members in the mediating country Qatar's capital Doha, where they are believed to have gathered to discuss a proposal for a ceasefire presented by the USA.
Six people were killed, of which five were Hamas members.
Qatar has acted as a mediator between Israel and Hamas and has hosted negotiations between them since October 2023.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defends the attack and claims that the killing of Hamas leaders will force an end to the war.
"Hamas terrorists' leaders who live in Qatar do not care about the people of Gaza. They have blocked all attempts at a ceasefire to prolong the war indefinitely", writes Netanyahu on X, shortly after Rubio's comment.
