Fun that he likes my goal celebration. He can steal it if he can't come up with one of his own, says Viktor Gyökeres to Viaplay.
The Swedish attacking star, called by many as Europe's hottest right now, was of course not over the moon after the 1-5 loss.
We weren't good enough today, we didn't play good enough football when we had the ball. It was a tough day, he says.
"Hard to do anything"
In the stands at Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon sat 20-30 representatives from European top clubs, sent to scout the Swedish attacking star who has made a sensation this fall with 24 goals for his Portuguese team. Including three against Manchester City in the latest Champions League match (4-1).
Additionally, he scored four against Azerbaijan in the Nations League last week.
But against Arsenal, Gyökeres didn't have it as easy as against Manchester City.
We didn't play as well and didn't have as good an attack, and then it's hard to do anything when you get the ball mostly on midfield, says the Swede.
We started like against City and conceded an early goal. It's not always easy to turn a match around.
The visitors took a three-goal lead at halftime. After Gabriel Magalhães nodded in 3-0 on added time in the first half, he snatched the Swedish player's goal celebration and put his intertwined hands in front of his face.
Gyökeres never saw the Arsenal player do the goal celebration and was not upset over the "tease".
Alone up front
Sporting reduced in the beginning of the second half. But a penalty gave Arsenal 4-1, which then became 5-1.
Gyökeres did what he could in attack, but was often all too alone. In the end of the match, Gyökeres made a strong run on the left flank and got a shot on goal – which hit the crossbar. Shortly after, he shot high over.
The match was the first in the Champions League with the new coach João Pereira. Rúben Amorim has left for Manchester United.
