Ronaldo's goals also meant hits number 40 and 41 in World Championship qualifying, making the superstar the best goal scorer in World Championship qualifying history.
But it started shaky for the Portuguese who fell into an early deficit at home to Hungary. Ronaldo, however, turned the tide on his own and 2–1 looked set to hold up for the rest of the match. It would have meant that Portugal will play in the World Championship next summer, with two rounds left of the qualifying campaign.
Hungary, however, wanted something else, equalized the game in stoppage time, and Ronaldo's Portugal will therefore have to wait a little longer before the World Championship ticket can be secured.
In parallel, England became clear for the World Championship, as the first team from Europe, with the 5–0 win away to Latvia. Harry Kane continues to show top form and scored two of the goals.
More countries qualified for the World Championship in football during Tuesday's qualifying matches. South Africa, Qatar, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Saudi Arabia can all start planning for next summer's big football party.
