We must open up Bolivia to the world and restore our role, says Paz.
Paz received the most votes also in the first round held in August this year. However, to win the presidential election, 50 percent of the votes are required, or 40 percent with a ten percentage point margin to the second place, which he did not manage to achieve then. Therefore, a new election round was held on Sunday.
One of the 58-year-old Paz's election promises is "capitalism for all" with, among other things, lower taxes. He is the son of the former president Jaime Paz Zamora, who ruled the country from 1989 to 1993.
The result means an end to Bolivia's 20 years of socialist rule. The country is currently in the worst economic crisis in several decades.
The next most votes were received by the right-wing candidate Jorge "Tuto" Quiroga.
