"About 30" rockets were fired at northern Israel on Wednesday morning, according to the Israeli military. It is not clear whether they caused any damage on the ground. Hezbollah had already announced attacks on 13 Israeli communities on Tuesday.

An Israeli warplane has carried out an attack well into Lebanon. The attack targeted a single car in Saadiyat, about two miles south of the capital Beirut, according to Lebanon's state news agency NNA. Beirut has been more peaceful in the past week, following the massive bombings on April 8 that killed more than 350 people in the capital.

Israel's warfare over the past week has been directed at areas in southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces have advanced in a ground invasion and claim to have established a "security zone." Ground battles have been reported to be raging against Hezbollah forces.

At a meeting in the United States, Israel and Lebanon's fragile government have agreed to begin direct talks about the conflict in Lebanon, but the armed and influential Hezbollah is not part of those talks and has dismissed them as pointless.
