Residents in Kramfors, Sollefteå, Örnsköldsvik and Härnösand municipalities are urged to "avoid going out on the road network due to many undermined roads".
We have a lot of water. I, who am old, remember how it was in 2000 and it is exactly the same now. It is a war zone, says Jan Norberg, team leader at the rescue service.
The rescue service has received a number of alarms. Two trains have derailed outside Örnsköldsvik, one carrying timber and a freight train with hazardous waste. In Härnösand municipality, a person has been taken to hospital after driving into a hole in the road. There is no prognosis for how long the VMA will apply.
At lunchtime on Sunday, the situation was however under control, since the rain had moved north.
We are winding down. We went on in the morning and we have been trying to restore. Now we will see if we need to pump more basements, says Norberg.
No prognosis
Even the Transport Administration warns road users from going out on the roads and that the weather will be troublesome also in Västerbotten and southeastern Norrbotten during Sunday.
If you are going out, you should stick to the main roads. The small gravel roads are not safe to drive on, says Jan Norberg.
Between Örnsköldsvik and Härnösand, the floods have caused a train stop. The stop affects traffic between Stockholm and Umeå, and currently there is no prognosis for when traffic can return to normal, according to SJ.
The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) is monitoring the development.
We have reinforcement resources in case of flooding if needed, but no such request has been received, says Magnus Nelson at MSB's press service.
The bad weather continues
The rain continues on Sunday and SMHI has issued a yellow warning for rain similar to cloudbursts and heavy showers with thunder in the eastern part of northern Norrland.
It can come up to 70-80 millimeters and much of it can come in a shorter time, which can lead to flooding, says Henrik Reimer, meteorologist at SMHI.
There is also a warning for high flows in streams and rivers, which affects roads and viaducts. The warning applies to most of Västernorrland County, until lunchtime on Monday.
