The national football team will gather in Marbella on Monday, train for four sessions in La Quinta and fly to Geneva after Friday's scheduled training. There, a World Cup qualifier against Switzerland awaits on Saturday evening.
The winds can of course change, but with less than a week until the gathering, there is a risk of heavy rain towards the end of next week. The forecasts are changing rapidly. From persistent rain Wednesday through Friday to a break and only occasional showers.
Red weather warnings
"I've seen it. The rain seems to be coming. Let's hope it stays that way," says Pettersson.
No one who was there wants to experience anything like the storm that hit the national team a year ago. Then the national team was surprised by red weather warnings screaming on their mobile phones.
The torrential rain forced the national team to break camp a day early. It was not possible to train on the waterlogged pitches.
It was like water polo, said Lucas Bergvall.
When the national team again chose Marbella as their base for the gathering in March, some training sessions were also conducted in heavy rain.
Can skip Marbella
Will you consider skipping Marbella in the future if training is rained out once again?
We might do that, but we will have to decide on that then, says Stefan Pettersson.
The national team management has previously justified the choice to train in Marbella by saying that there is a lack of access to suitable facilities in the Stockholm area.
It is not clear whether the national team will choose to prepare abroad for the highly likely World Cup playoff that awaits at the end of March.
If we play in the playoffs, the first game is on a Thursday. We also don't know today whether we'll play at home or away. It depends on which pot we end up in. We have to wait for this window (the World Cup qualifying finale) before we nail down the plans for March, says Stefan Pettersson.
