Summer used to be synonymous with low electricity prices. But the situation looks worse than in previous years.

The land is unusually dry, with poor prospects for replenishing water reservoirs. The crisis in the Middle East is pushing up gas and thus electricity prices across the continent, mainly affecting southern Sweden. Currently, half of the nuclear power capacity is also undergoing overhaul.

If it is a windy summer, it will have a dampening effect on prices. But as always, prices will vary greatly, says Pontus de Maré, operations manager at Svenska kraftnät.

This often means electricity is sold in the middle of the day when growing solar capacity provides more power, while prices become increasingly sky-high in the evenings and at night.
