The rescue service is on site in Kubbe, five miles outside Örnsköldsvik, since Monday evening when alarms about water-filled basements began to come in.
We have received information that approximately 120 millimeters of rain came during this rainstorm that passed by on Sunday. Now, these water quantities have run down from the terrain to the Anundsjöån, which has risen about four meters, says Jörgen Seijsing, rescue leader on site in Kubbe.
Built barriers
About 15 properties are affected with water in basements and garages, where the rescue service helps with carrying furniture and other things to the upper floors.
We are trying to pump out basements with our pumps and we have also built barriers with sand. The property owners are doing a great job themselves too, so we are helping each other here with many people involved, says Seijsing.
No people have needed to be rescued, but about ten sheep that were out grazing may possibly need help.
They have gone onto a field, but now it has formed like an island, so they are in danger of ending up in the water.
Still rising
The most critical situation has been for the bridge in Kubbe that crosses the stream, when the water has continued to rise. The Swedish Transport Administration is on site to assess whether the road needs to be closed.
It is a major county road, 348, that may need to be blocked off. The water is still rising and it is only one decimeter left to the beams that hold up the bridge, said Jörgen Seising at 10 am on Tuesday.
Just after 12 o'clock, they decided to place large concrete socks on the bridge, to weigh down the bridge and prevent it from being washed away, reports Örnsköldsviks Allehanda. Then the water had risen to just one centimeter under the beams, but with the socks in place, the assessment is that the bridge is secured.
The newspaper has also spoken to Ida Ståhlberg in Kubbe, who evacuated her flooded house during the morning.
It feels very uncertain when we can live in our houses again. Right now, the most important thing is that we pack up and get the things we need. And that the animals come with us, she says.
