The issue has been debated intensively, not least in the municipalities that could be affected by uranium mining.
The government believes that nuclear materials should be treated the same as other metals and minerals and that the regulations will now be more logical and predictable.
The opposition made reservations about the proposal but could only agree on a joint counterproposal to urge the government to ensure the municipalities' influence over the extraction of uranium and alum shale.
The government has also signaled that it wants to investigate a new municipal veto against mining in alum shale and that it should apply retroactively.
The legal changes will enter into force on July 15, 2026.
