The issue has been debated intensively, especially in the municipalities that could be affected by uranium mining.
The government believes that nuclear materials should be treated the same way as other metals and minerals and that the regulations will now be more logical and predictable.
The opposition expressed reservations about the proposal but agreed only on a counterproposal urging the government to ensure municipalities' influence over the extraction of uranium and alum shale.
The government has also signaled that it wants to investigate a new municipal veto on mining in alum shale and whether it should apply retroactively.
The legal changes will enter into force on July 15, 2026.
