The investment is estimated to cost 350 million euros (3.9 billion SEK). The number of workers at the factory will almost double to 1,300.
300 million euros will also be invested in Rheinmetall's gunpowder factories in Switzerland and Spain.
Europe's gunpowder stocks need to be replenished as a result of the war in Ukraine, where large amounts of ammunition have been used since the Russian attack in 2022.
Self-sufficiency is crucial, especially when it comes to gunpowder, which is manufactured by only a few companies worldwide, says Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger.
