Here we are talking about halving ticket prices, which should reasonably mean greater demand, says Jens Portinson Hylander.
He is one of the researchers behind a report on the importance of ticket prices that was recently released by K2, Sweden's national knowledge center for collective mobility.
In the report, the researchers have mostly looked at examples with relatively normal price changes, which have not had a huge impact on travel. Instead, factors such as punctuality and supply are the most crucial.
But now it's about halving the price of monthly passes.
It should have some incentive effect, says Jens Portinson Hylander.
Price-sensitive groups such as low-income earners and pensioners will benefit from the cheaper monthly passes.
These groups can have increased accessibility because they can afford to buy these tickets to a greater extent.
Jens Portinson Hylander says that the biggest effect of the cheaper monthly passes will be for people traveling within the urban area or between larger towns within a region.
