Ukraine's control over areas in the Russian region of Kursk has decreased, while the Russian advances in Ukrainian Donetsk continue, according to a source within the Ukrainian military.
The largest territory we held in the Kursk region consisted of 1,376 square kilometers. Now it's around 800 square kilometers, says the source to the news agency AFP.
Ukraine's plan is to stay in the Russian border region, where Ukrainian forces surprisingly entered last summer, "as long as it is suitable", according to the source.
At the same time, the Russian advance continues near the eastern Ukrainian industrial city of Kurakhove in the Donetsk region. The situation on site is described as worse than it is around the strategic city of Pokrovsk, which has been seen as important for Russia.
The enemy is advancing there. It advances 200-300 meters per day, says the source.
