They were found in the sea back in May 2024, but now they have been identified, the police in Agder county in southern Norway announced .
The woman was last seen alive outside the coastal city of Kristiansand on April 5, 2024. Three days later, she was reported missing.
Police say they have carried out a number of investigative measures, including searches with dogs, interviews with friends and acquaintances, and traffic tracking. The public has also been involved, but the woman could not be found.
It was only when they launched an international search a few months later, in November last year, that their DNA samples could be matched against the difficult-to-identify remains that had been found far out in the North Sea.
In the press release, the police regret that the international search was not made earlier.
The Scottish autopsy report concluded that the woman had no injuries. How she died remains unclear and police will continue their investigation to determine if foul play was involved.
"If anyone has new information that they believe may be relevant to clarifying what happened to the woman, we ask that they contact the police," says police prosecutor Vanja Bruvoll.
