Reinfeldt Questions US Role in 2026 World Cup Hosting

Sweden supported the World Championship in football going to Saudi Arabia. Fredrik Reinfeldt resigned after two years as chairman of the Swedish Football Association and took the opportunity to respond to some of the criticism directed at him, regarding Sweden's vote in favor of hosting the 2034 World Championship for men's football in Saudi Arabia.

Reinfeldt has taken a pragmatic stance that Sweden must be able to participate in championships organized in countries whose forms of government do not align with Swedish values.

It was presented as if this was about Saudi Arabia, but if the world continues in the direction we're heading now, we'll be having this discussion again and again and again, said Reinfeldt.

He reminded that Russia and Qatar hosted the 2018 and 2022 World Championships and mentioned that the USA, Canada, and Mexico will be hosting the 2026 World Championship together.

What is it, for example, about the USA hosting the 2026 World Championship? Which country is it? What kind of World Championship is it that is inaugurated by President Trump and (FIFA) President (Gianni) Infantino, where is Sweden then?
