Singer Dennis Lyxzén, bassist Magnus Flagge and drummer David Sandström form the new group with freeform saxophonist Mats Gustafsson.
"Backengrillen is a new group with roots in hardcore, punk, noise and freeform jazz," the band members write on social media.
Backengrillen's debut album will be released on January 23rd.
"The record was written on a Thursday during the very first rehearsal, performed live for the first time on a Friday and recorded on a Saturday," the group writes.
Refused is on a farewell tour all over the world and will play their very last gig on December 21st, at home in the Väven cultural center in Umeå.
