The European Commission hopes that just over ten billion a year will be saved through simpler administration of environmental regulations.

Wednesday's simplification package includes, among other things, more flexible rules and reporting requirements in the EU's Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) and the abolition of the Scip database on particularly hazardous substances.

Our companies are forced to spend too much time and resources on compliance with regulations, says Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall at a press conference in Brussels together with colleagues Teresa Ribera and Valdis Dombrovskis.

The hope is that the simplifications will enable European companies to save a total of one billion euros – 10.8 billion Swedish kronor – annually.

The environmental package is the eighth in a series of the European Commission's ongoing efforts at simplification in various areas.
