Reddit is taking legal action to oppose Australia's law that stops young people under 16 from being on social media.

According to the company, the law means that “adults and minors alike are forced into intrusive and potentially unsafe verification processes,” reports Australia’s ABC . The internet forum has no age limit and should therefore be excluded from the list of ten platforms that need to comply with the law, Reddit argues.

The company also finds it illogical which platforms the law applies to.

However, Reddit states that it will comply with the legislation.

Since December 10, social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and TikTok have been forced to remove users under the age of 16 in Australia. If companies systematically fail to perform age checks, they risk fines of up to around SEK 300 million.
