Germany has approved a defense budget worth 20 billion euros, approximately 230 billion Swedish kronor.
The country's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius welcomes the record-large defense package, which includes 38 larger projects, including four submarines and a warship. Additionally, the air defense will be reinforced with, among other things, more Patriot systems.
The defense effort comes at a time when Germany is trying to rebuild its long-neglected defense in the wake of the increased geopolitical tensions following the Ukraine war.
At the same time, the German Finance Ministry reports that the country's military exports have increased to 13.2 billion euros this year. Nearly two-thirds of the exports have gone to Ukraine, with a large part financed by Germany.
