It's the usual factors that are driving the currently extra-high electricity prices. Even more expensive gas, half the nuclear fleet due for annual inspection, low water levels in the reservoirs.
"The main reasons, in addition to the reasons above, are low wind power production in combination with power outages," writes Svenska Kraftnät in its weekly update on the situation in the electricity market.
Between 7:30 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., electricity cost SEK 8.98/kWh in electricity area 4 (southern Götaland), according to the electricity exchange Nord Pool. The price spikes mainly affect those with variable hourly prices. On the other hand, if you can control your consumption, you can avoid the worst extremes.
Higher than 2022
Tonight's quarter-hour price is a record high. But if you combine four quarters into one hour, a higher price was recorded during the electricity crisis year of 2022, according to electricity trading company Bixia analyst Johan Sigvardsson.
The average price over the day in southern Sweden is just over 3 kronor, also unusually high. In the rest of the country, the daily prices are lower but still at elevated levels, between 1.10 kronor in the north to 1.60 kronor in Svealand.
Relief later
On Tuesday there will be some relief, down to 1.60 SEK/kWh in electricity area 4 and 35 öre in Norrland (price areas 1 and 2) and 1 krona in electricity area 3.
"Better tomorrow and the rest of the week when more wind is expected, both here at home and on the continent," writes Johan Sigvardsson in a comment to TT.
But winter is going to be tough. Normally records are set in winter. And there could be new ones when the cold weather arrives.
“Maybe even higher”
"Unfortunately for the country's electricity users, there is much evidence that we will see more high electricity prices this coming winter, perhaps even higher than today's peak," writes Christian Holtz, electricity market analyst at Polite Energy, in a comment.
On top of the electricity price itself, there is electricity tax, VAT and network fee of well over one krona/kWh.
