Iratxe García Pérez, leader of the Social Democratic Party (S&D) group, told reporters on Tuesday that there is an "agreement among the majority" to freeze the negotiations.
The unity is confirmed by the Christian Democratic conservative EPP, which is the largest party group in parliament.
"Fuck off"
The rare turnout was also noticeable in a debate in Strasbourg earlier on Tuesday, where the US president's actions were condemned speaker after speaker by politicians from across the political spectrum.
Anders Vistisen of the Danish People's Party greeted Trump with a "fuck off" - just as he did in a debate almost exactly a year ago. And just like then, formal bans are being promised against Vistisen for using inappropriate language.
Among the Swedes, Alice Teodorescu Måwe (KD) urged European countries to re-equip themselves to become strong again.
Reportedly preparing retaliatory tariffs
"It's about everything from nuclear weapons to ammunition and materials. Europe can become a great power again, but then we have to stop behaving like a cultural heritage," said Teodorescu Måwe.
This weekend, the Financial Times reported, citing sources, that the EU is preparing retaliatory tariffs against the US equivalent to nearly SEK 1,000 billion.
The move is a response to Trump's announcement on Saturday that he would impose tariffs on Sweden, Denmark and six other European countries as punishment for not allowing the United States to buy Greenland. According to the president, the tariffs will take effect from February 1 at 10 percent and will then increase to 25 percent in June if there is no Greenland deal by then.
