South African police have arrested 95 Libyan citizens in a raid on a secret military camp in northeastern South Africa.
The camp was discovered on a farm in the Mpumalanga province northeast of Johannesburg. The Libyans had entered the country on student visas to train as security guards, but the police investigation suggests that they received military training.
Images from the site broadcast by the news channel Newzroom Afrika TV show a military camp with large green tents set up in rows.
According to local authorities, the owner of the farm is being questioned. They have also received tips that there are two similar secret camps in other parts of the province.
Neither the police nor the authorities have said whether there are suspicions of links to any specific group or conflict.
