After clashes in border areas between the countries have flared up again, the parties will meet in Qatar's capital Doha on Saturday, announces the Pakistani state television according to AFP.
During the week, several attacks at the border between the countries have claimed over a hundred lives. In connection with this, Pakistan is reported to have carried out drone attacks on targets in Afghanistan's capital Kabul. The countries accuse each other of having escalated the situation and of having caused civilian casualties.
On Wednesday, the parties agreed on a two-day ceasefire. When it expired on Friday, the unrest flared up again with new casualties as a result.
But now Qatar is opening up for mediation in the conflict. To Doha, Pakistan's defense minister and head of the intelligence service are flying to meet representatives of the Taliban regime.
The Taliban also confirm the talks, writes AFP. A delegation led by Defense Minister Mohammad Yaqoob is on its way to Doha, writes the Taliban government's spokesperson on X.
