Khalil al-Mohannadi, chairman of Qatar's Table Tennis Federation, challenged incumbent Petra Sörling in the presidential election in Doha, but the Swede won the election with 104–102 in votes.
The result caused the congress to erupt and was interrupted as outsiders disturbed the order.
There was such an atmosphere in the hall and I didn't feel safe, said Sörling to Dagens Nyheter.
Sörling and the Swedish delegation received help from the Swedish embassy to leave Qatar.
The Qatari Table Tennis Federation is threatening legal action, writes AFP.
"We are actively investigating all legal and legal alternatives. We think there is sufficient reason to question the electoral process. We are consulting legal experts to secure, if necessary, to escalate the matter via sports arbitration courts", writes a spokesperson for the Qatari Table Tennis Federation to AFP.
The International Table Tennis Federation, ITTF, already declared Petra Sörling the winner the same evening and has stated that the voting followed the federation's statutes and regulations.
Therefore, al-Mohannadi's only way is to go through CAS, the sports arbitration court.
ITTF will also investigate the disturbances at the congress.
