They (the sanctions) are of course serious for us, it is clear. And they will have some consequences, but they will not significantly affect the condition of our economy, says Putin at a press conference.
The measures are taken according to the US Department of Finance to put pressure on Putin as part of the attempts to put an end to the war in Ukraine.
Putin describes the sanctions as a "hostile act" that "does not strengthen the Russian-American relations, which had just begun to be restored".
He does not rule out dialogue.
Dialogue is always better than confrontation or disputes, and especially war. We have always supported continued dialogue, says Putin.
But if Russia were to be attacked with American Tomahawk missiles – which Ukraine is eagerly seeking but which the US has so far not agreed to provide the country with – the response would be "very powerful, if not overwhelming", adds Putin.
