"With around 100,000 Ukrainians in Norway, we expect this to be a particular future challenge. Ukrainians live all over the country and therefore this is a relevant issue for most municipalities and districts, " says Atle Tangen, head of the PST's State Threat Actors Department.
He adds that PST wants to have a closer dialogue with Ukrainians in Norway to "increase awareness and vigilance around this issue."
The move comes in connection with PST publishing a report on national threat images, which highlights increased activity from Russian intelligence services. This is in light of Russia's offensive war in Ukraine and Norway's increased participation in NATO exercises, among other things.
PST claims to be aware of several recruitment attempts, including in southern Norway.
The Swedish Security Police points out that they have seen the same phenomenon with the recruitment of so-called consumption agents, especially in Europe.
"It is something we also take into account in Sweden," says Säpo's press spokesperson Gabriel Wernstedt to TT.
