In the district court, the man was sentenced to life imprisonment for two violent explosions in Hässelby and Linköping in the autumn of 2023 – but in the court of appeal, the sentence was reduced to 18 years' imprisonment.
Now, the reduced sentence is being appealed to the Supreme Court by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Katarina Johansson Welin is taking issue, among other things, with the court of appeal's failure to consider that the bombs, which exploded in two stairwells, occurred in a public place. This is incorrect, according to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
"The effects of the very powerful explosive charges were that material was thrown many meters away and damaged both property and a person in a public place. In my opinion, one must therefore consider that the crimes were also committed in a public place," says Johansson Welin according to a press statement.
Therefore, the sentence should be increased to life imprisonment, according to the appeal. Furthermore, two other individuals who received fixed-term prison sentences should receive longer sentences than what the court of appeal has imposed, according to Johansson Welin.
