The name “Donnyland” has been floated during peace talks in recent months. The name is based on both the war-torn Ukrainian Donbas and President Trump’s first name, multiple sources told The New York Times.
The word was first mentioned by a Ukrainian negotiator partly in jest - but also as an attempt to get the Trump administration to put pressure on Russia and its territorial claims, according to the source.
The name proposal reflects "a global reality where governments appeal to Trump's vanity to get American power on their side," the newspaper writes.
