The number of elderly people in the population is increasing, and therefore the number of people receiving home care is also increasing. But the proportion of people over 80 receiving home care is decreasing. Over the past ten years, it has fallen from 20 percent to 16 percent. In a new situation report from the National Board of Health and Welfare, senior care managers point to several explanations.
The most common is that preventive work such as community meeting places, training and assistive devices can postpone or replace the need for home care.
Many also highlight a changing attitude - that older people are postponing applications for support or choosing other solutions such as private cleaning services. Some of the managers also believe that more restrictive assessments have contributed to the decrease.
