A young Ukrainian man has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison for setting fire to an Ikea store in Vilnius last year.

An explosive device placed in the store in May 2024 detonated during the night and caused the fire. No one was injured.

According to the judge, the man committed an act of terrorism and also an attempted act of terrorism in the city of Siauliai, where there is an air base that is used, among other things, by NATO for the defense alliance's air patrols over the Baltics.

According to the prosecution, the man acted in the "interests of a foreign military intelligence service."

The man, who was 17 years old at the time of the crime, was allegedly promised a car and 10,000 euros (approximately 110,000 kronor) for his efforts.
