SVT will save 355 million SEK, of which 192 million SEK is explained by SVT remaining the sole financier of the terrestrial network that is part of the emergency response mission.

According to the opposition, it is possible to allocate extra funds from the public service account, where the money is "spilling over," the S leader tells SVT.

But Minister of Culture Parisa Liljestrand continues to claim that it cannot be done quickly.

If the opposition thought it was that easy, they would have added money to their own budgets, and they haven't done that.

“Very clear”

So is the opposition lying or ignorant?

"I'm not going to tell anyone that someone is lying," says the Minister of Culture.

She emphasizes that it is "very clear" in the public service bill that extra funding must be provided "in an orderly process with a submitted proposal from the government."

Which we have now said we intend to do, she says, but she does not want to give a timetable.

In August last year, TV4 announced that it was leaving the terrestrial network. According to Fredrik Stiernstedt, professor of media and communication studies, it was no surprise that the public service would end up as the sole financier of the terrestrial network. SVT's board has applied for funding for the increased expenditure but has still not received a response from the government.

The opposition believes that the procedure is taking an unnecessarily long time.

You may think it takes a long time, but at the same time it is important to look at what has happened. We have a distribution investigation that is working full time, says Parisa Liljestrand, who emphasizes that the investigation will look at both the organization and financing of the terrestrial network.

“The way of the Tidö parties”

The chairman of the Culture Committee, Mats Berglund (MP), describes the drawn-out procedure as the Tidö parties' way of withholding funding for public service. The Minister of Culture disagrees.

I think it's very unfortunate if you perceive it that way. The government has been working on this issue for a long time.

Parisa Liljestrand has previously emphasized that SVT receives approximately 5 billion per year and that it is SVT that decides how to prioritize.

Programs that are disappearing: “Hotel Romantik”, “Vem bor här?”, “Frågan är fri”, “Antikmagasin”, “Jullov” and “Talkshow with Carina Bergfeldt” will be paused from 2027.
