The school was reportedly hit in a drone attack on the town of Kalogi in the state of South Kordofan in central Sudan on Thursday, according to a statement from the Sudan Doctors Network.
When paramedics arrived at the scene, a second attack reportedly occurred.
The doctors point to RSF, one of the two parties to the civil war, as responsible and call it “a clear violation of international humanitarian law.”
The death toll is expected to rise.
The bloody fighting has intensified in Kordofan states since the RSF recently completely forced the Sudanese army out of the city of al-Fashir – the army's last major stronghold in the Darfur region in the west.
The capture of al-Fashir has been followed by reports of mass executions and alarms of ethnic cleansing.
UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk is now warning of a similar development in Kordofan. He calls on “all states with influence over the parties to take immediate measures to stop the fighting and stop the arms flows that fuel the conflict.”
The RSF and the army have been fighting each other since 2023. Tens of thousands of people have been killed and around twelve million have been displaced, according to the World Health Organization.
