49-year-old Anders Sörensen from Södertälje was appointed as Chicago's temporary coach when the previous coach Luke Richardson was fired last week.
It's exciting, he says about the win, to reporters after the match.
Chicago's goalkeeper Arvid Söderblom, who had to step onto the ice after the main goalkeeper Petr Mrazek was injured, had a good day at work. The Swede stopped 29 of the 30 shots fired at him.
That was so much fun, the most fun I've had in a while, says Söderblom himself.
"Cool feeling"
Playing at Madison Square Garden in New York was a childhood dream that came true, says the Swede, who as a child watched matches where the former Swedish Rangers goalkeeper Henrik Lundqvist played on the same arena.
It was a cool feeling to step out onto that ice and to play as well as we did, says Arvid Söderblom.
The score was 1–1 after the first period, when the visitors extended their lead through a goal by Taylor Hall six minutes into the second period. Chicago won 2–1.
It's enormous. It's been five matches since we last won, says Taylor Hall and takes the opportunity to praise the two Swedes:
Anders got a win, and so did "Sody" (Arvid Söderblom). "Sody" has played really well for us this year.
"Fought hard"
Chicago's first match with Sörensen at the helm, which was played on Sunday night, ended in a loss against Winnipeg. It was the team's fifth loss in a row.
The losing streak was getting long, notes Sörensen and adds that the team "fought hard" in tonight's match.
Anders Sörensen has previously been the head coach of Chicago's farm team Rockford since November 2021.
