Dangerous objects preceded fire in same house

A powerful fire ravaged a multi-family house in Uppsala on Tuesday evening. The night before, two suspected dangerous objects were found in the same house. Of course, we see a connection, says the police's press spokesperson Magnus Jansson Klarin.

The fire in the Gränby district broke out about a day after the national bomb squad had rendered two suspicious objects in the house harmless. Initially, the fire raged fiercely with a risk of spreading.

There were explosions and it banged quite a lot during the fire. It was intense but was extinguished fairly quickly anyway, says Magnus Jansson Klarin.

The fire, which started in a hair salon, could be put out before it spread. Residents of the building did not need to be evacuated and no one was injured.

We have been working full-time with significant resources throughout the night. But we haven't been able to conduct a technical investigation yet, since it's been too hot after the fire.

The incident is being investigated as aggravated arson. No one has been detained.

The suspected hazardous objects, which were detonated by the bomb squad, were found on the same spot as the fire broke out on Tuesday night. The incident is being investigated as, among other things, reckless endangerment, and a 16-year-old boy has been arrested.

It's remarkable that a fire now occurs at the same location. Obviously, we see some form of connection there. We have surveillance in place and are continuously assessing how we proceed, says Magnus Jansson Klarin.
