I think this is a fantastic job, as you may notice I'm very enthusiastic about climate and environmental issues, and that's my focus, responds Pourmokhtari during a press conference on the question of whether she wants to become The Liberals' party leader.
Then she refers to "the process within our party".
Many will certainly follow this closely and it will become clearer later on, but the electoral committee has not even started its work yet, so I think everyone can calm down a bit now, she continues.
Several Nominations
On Monday, The Liberals in Kronoberg nominated Environment and Climate Minister Romina Pourmokhtari as new party leader. Previously, The Liberals in Jämtland and Skaraborg, The Liberal Youth Association, and The Liberal Students have also backed Pourmokhtari.
Later on Monday evening, Västerbotten's county association also joined the crowd.
"We believe that Romina Pourmokhtari is the right person to lead The Liberals in next year's election campaign and to pursue a social liberal policy", writes Jens Wennberg, the county association's chairman, in a press release.
Expressen has also learned that Kalmar is considering backing the climate minister.
"Honorable"
It is, of course, very honorable that there are associations that have great confidence in me, says Pourmokhtari.
However, she says that The Liberals have many associations in the country and that one has been asked to keep the process internal.
It's quite few nominations that are being discussed in the media, so I hope that one can keep that in mind, that there are quite many candidates in this process. One should not focus too much on these headlines.
On Monday, May 12, the formal nomination process begins.
The election of a new party leader takes place at an extraordinary national meeting on Tuesday, June 24.
