Johannes Høsflot Klæbo won the World Championship's final mass start over 50 kilometers in Finnish Lahtis, ahead of two other Norwegians: Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget and Simen Hegstad Krüger.
It was also Norwegian on the fourth place (Andreas Fjorden Ree) and another nation on the fifth through William Poromaa. The 24-year-old Swede hints, however, that he could have challenged for the top positions if the skis had been better for the day.
Dissatisfied with the skis
It's irritating. There's not much to say. It's pretty clear what's not working today, says Poromaa to Viaplay.
I'm energetic in my body and everything works. So it was pretty clear what the problem was today. But that's how it is.
Poromaa managed to keep up with the leading group for about four miles, but then both he and the German Friedrich Moch had to let go while a Norwegian quartet broke away.
During a few kilometers of the final mile, Poromaa approached again, and for a moment it looked like he would catch up with the four Norwegians ahead.
The World Championship king won again
But he never got in real contact and eventually gave up the chase. At the finish, he was half a minute from the podium.
I was energetic all the way, so it was sour. I was super energetic, says William Poromaa.
The decision was made in a sprint finish, and as usual, Klæbo was impossible to beat. The 28-year-old, who took all six gold medals at the World Championship in Trondheim a couple of weeks ago, put in an extra gear out towards the stadium, and then the others were helpless. Thus, he won all three races in Lahtis.
Earlier, Klæbo had also secured the victory in the total World Cup.
