Duda says that he recently discussed the proposal with Keith Kellogg, the Trump administration's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia.

The issue has also been raised earlier by the Polish government with the Biden administration in 2022, according to Duda.

Duda reminds in the interview that Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in 2023 that Russia would move tactical nuclear weapons to neighboring Belarus.

Russia did not hesitate for a moment when they redeployed their nuclear weapons to Belarus. They did not ask anyone for permission, says Duda to Financial Times.

Duda simultaneously rejects the proposal from Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk that Poland could develop its own nuclear arsenal or be covered by the French nuclear system. He believes it would take too long.

I believe it would take decades, he says to the newspaper.
